Don't hate us but we're continuing with the failed and hated Windows. #WindowsVista.
The year is 2007, and Microsoft (after 6 years of Windows XP rule) tries to enter the OS market again with a new entry and attempt at OS design. Its name? Vista, Windows Vista. A nowadays hated Operating System that back when it came out, revolutionized its age. It redefined what Windows would look like, and how it would function. It was a 6-year development but seeing how it ended up today takes up a lot of explaining, let's take a look:
Windows XP, and the start of the new age
Before we examine Vista's life, we have to pick up from where we left off last Thursday. As Windows Me lasted only a year, and failed when it did, the Windows to pick up and clean up the ashes of its predecessor was Windows XP. A legendary Operating System that finally bridged the business and home Windows versions under the NT system, that predominantly killed MSDOS and replaced it with itself as the only system to run on a Windows Computer.
It had a new and kind of more modern design as well as new code.
What's the catch? Well, it still had the old layout and Wifi networks did not exactly have a great time, as well as it barely had a x64 version except some patches.
In 2001, it was great but as the years went by, Windows XP was becoming all but more outdated. However, from 2001, Microsoft had already started developing a new Operating System. It's name? Windows Codename Longhorn.
Windows Longhorn (Codename for Vista)
From late 2001-early 2002, Microsoft had already started to create what the future of Windows would be. Its name was Longhorn (later named Vista) and it was exactly what Windows would become today.
A new layout, look, and system was what Longhorn tried to achieve.
At first even, Windows Longhorn barely even was announced, only at Windows XP's Service Pack 2003 is when some leaks of Windows Longhorn code were released.
Longhorn development lasted 6 years before it was released in January 30th 2007.
Windows Vista as it came out, and its groundbreaking features.
A new shell, Windows Aero (which was a more aesthetically pleasing look), Windows Search and Sidebar, Windows Defender, Games Explorer, Windows Mobility Center, Parental Controls, Speech Recognition and more features were integrated into Vista. Vista was great for its time and its layout is still used in Windows today! Windows 10's layout is a recoloring of the Vista!
Now: Why do people hate Vista?
Why is Vista hated?
Vista is hated today, it's a meme, and a buggy mess. When it came out, it was full of instability and bugs, people hated its very existence. Its groundbreaking features was something people did not care about.
What did Microsoft do? In 2009, Windows 7 would show the world what Windows should look like. It took and patched Windows Vista, and became the highest selling Windows of all time.
As of what we can say now about it is that is revolutionized its world, and we can just not like it but not hate it either. Because after all, it made its stamp in history.
Next Thursday, stay tuned for the next Windows Story.
So, recently, I had to format a computer from 2007 as a task and I got to see Vista live in action. Well, having made this article, I got to say that Vista was not that bad. It is pretty good actually! I totally suggest giving Vista a second chance if you can. #WindowsVista
